ENR 1.4 ATS AIRSPACE CLASSIFICATION

1.4.1 ATS AIRSPACE CLASSIFICATION

ATS airspace classification in Taipei FIR is as follows:
  1. Class A Airspace: IFR only. Air Traffic Control service and separation are provided to all aircraft.
  2. Class B Airspace: IFR and VFR flights are permitted. Air Traffic Control service and separation are provided to all aircraft.
  3. Class C Airspace: IFR and VFR flights are permitted. Air Traffic Control service is provided to all aircraft. ATC provides separation to IFR/IFR and IFR/VFR aircraft, as well as traffic advisories to VFR/VFR aircraft.
  4. Class D Airspace: IFR and VFR flights are permitted. Air Traffic Control service is provided to all aircraft. ATC provides separation to IFR/IFR aircraft, as well as traffic advisory for IFR/VFR, and VFR/VFR aircraft.
  5. Class E Airspace: IFR and VFR flights are permitted. Air Traffic Control service is provided to IFR aircraft. ATC provides separation to IFR/IFR aircraft, and traffic advisory to all aircraft.
  6. Class E Surface Airspace: IFR and VFR flights are permitted. Air Traffic Control service is provided to IFR aircraft. ATC provides separation to IFR/IFR aircraft, and traffic advisory to all aircraft.
  7. Class G airspace: Airspace outside of controlled airspace. Air traffic control services will be provided only on pilot's request and after coordination with the related units.

1.4.2 SUPPLEMENT TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF TWO-WAY RADIO COMMUNICATION BEFORE ENTERING A CONTROLLED AIRSPACE

  1. The aircraft shall establish two-way radio communication with the ATC unit in jurisdiction before entering a class C, class D airspace or class E surface airspace.
  2. The aircraft shall contact the ATC unit in jurisdiction at appropriate distance from class C, class D and class E surface airspace and advise ATC of the following information:
    1. Aircraft identification.
    2. The present position, altitude and heading. and
    3. The time, altitude, heading, bearing and distance to penetrate class C, class D airspace and class E surface airspace or Aerodrome traffic circuit.
  1. The ATC will issue a suitable clearance based on the situation within the airspace according to pilots' request.
  2. The possible phraseology ATC may respond to a radio communication (for example, an application to enter class C airspace):
    1. ENTER CHARLIE AIRSPACE VIA... (significant point OR ROUTE) AT ... (or ON CLIMB or DESCENT TO)... (level).
    2. REMAIN OUTSIDE CHARLIE AIRSPACE EXPECT ... (minutes) DELAY.
